October Open House and Glass Workshops

Salem Community College welcomes the public to the Samuel H. Jones Glass Education Center on Sunday, October 21st for an afternoon of glass. 

The SCC’s Glass Club’s sale will feature handmade glass including pumpkins, flowers, jewelry, vases and paperweights from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.  Admission to the Glass Education Center and the sale is free.  While visiting the center, guests may check out the studio and see glassmaking in action.

Also on October 21st, the glass center will be running several hands on workshops.   No glass experience is necessary, but please note minimum age requirements.


Fused Halloween Decorations*, 1.5 hour session from 12:30pm-2:00pm, or 2:30pm-4:00pm, $40.00 per person- Create your very own Halloween inspired window decoration!  Participants will create their fused glass window ornaments by layering pieces of flat glass and enamels and heating them in a kiln.  Ages 4 and up. Under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.


Flameworked Halloween Pendants and Stir Sticks, 3 hour session from 1pm-4pm, $55.00 per person- Attendees use heat, gravity and simple tools to create their very own glass pendants and themed stir sticks at the torch. Ages 10 and up. Under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. 


Blown Glass Pumpkins, 1.5 hour sessions between 12:30pm-2:00pm, or 2:30pm-4pm, $75.00- Participants will create a glass pumpkin from the glass furnace in our glassblowing studio!  Ages 14 and up. Under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

(*Due to the process, items will need to be picked up at a later date, or can be shipped for an additional fee.)

Since seating is limited, early registration is highly encouraged. 

*All of our classes are subject to a minimum enrollment policy.  In the event that we do not meet our minimum enrollment for a course we will refund your purchase.  Salem Community College is not responsible for non-refundable travel expenses.  Students will be notified no later than 45 days prior to their class start date if their workshop is subject to cancellation. There is always a chance, due to unforeseen circumstances that a class may be cancelled unexpectedly.  In these instances as well, refunds on registration will be issued, and Salem Community College will not be responsible for non-refundable travel expenses.
