SCC Mighty Oaks Baseball signs four student-athletes

Mighty Oaks

Salem Community College Mighty Oaks baseball head coach John Holt has announced the

signings of four student-athletes to the 2020 team: Anthony Casino (Roman Catholic High

School in Philadelphia), Ray Knappenberger (Pennsville), Zach Runyon (Arthur P. Schalick) and

Sean Smith (Pennsville). All four students are 2019 high school graduates.

Casino is an outfielder whose Roman Catholic team was selected for the prestigious Carpenter

Cup Classic.

Knappenberger is a middle infielder who was a three-year varsity starter.

Runyon played the outfield and pitched for Schalick, which advanced to the 2019 South Jersey

Group 1 final. During his senior year, the varsity letter-winner took SCC courses through the

Jump Start program, making the Dean's List. Zach was inducted into the National Honor Society

and the French National Honor Society.

Smith is a 2019 second team all-conference outfielder who along with high school and SCC

teammate Ray Knappenberger helped Pennsville win the South Jersey Group 1 title in 2018. A

three-year letterman, Sean transferred to Pennsville his junior year from Port Saint Lucie, Fla.

SCC will resume Mighty Oaks Athletics in the 2019-2020 academic year with cross country,

men’s and women’s basketball, baseball and softball. Golf and men’s and women’s soccer are

slated to begin the following year. For more information, contact Director of Athletics Dr. Bob
