President's Message

Greetings from Your SCC President,

Community college is very important to the Gorman family. I am a community college graduate. My wife is a community college (SCC) graduate. My daughter is a community college graduate (also SCC).  My mother, after raising a family, returned to community college for her degree. It has been the vehicle to make our personal and professional dreams a reality.

Serving as the eighth President of your Salem Community College, is a privilege. We are the smallest community college in the New Jersey system, and we use our size to your advantage. The fact that we have a student population of about 1,000 allows us to know your name, to be available when you need us, and to provide personalized services in reaching your dreams.

Everyone comes to college with career ambitions. They are not always clear at the onset, but they become more defined with each course and learning experience. You may dream of becoming a teacher, a doctor, an engineer, a technician, a nurse, an accountant, a sales manager, a health professional, the list is as long as one’s imagination. We are here to facilitate your goals. You will be the one who does the heavy lifting, as it should be, but we are here to keep you on target, assisting when the load is a bit much, and to making your experience excellent.

Your College is emblematic of the county. We are affordable, so is Salem County. With the Turnpike, Routes 295, 49, 130, 540, 140, 40 and 49 all converging close to the College, we are easily accessible, as is Salem County. We are close, but not too close, to many population centers such as Wilmington, Philadelphia, Cherry Hill, and Vineland. We hold country values, such as kindness and caring, as well as an honest, almost mid-western work ethic, just as do the people of Salem County. I am proud not only to work in Salem County, but to have lived here for more than 30 years. SCC and Salem County are places to grow professionally and personally.

I pledge to you, as President of Salem Community College, to greet each day with enthusiasm, to meet every challenge with excitement, and to examine every issue facing us with the interests of our students and Salem County at heart.

Your Salem Community College is an affordable, quality, and empowering educational opportunity. Let us work with you.

Sincerely,
Michael R. Gorman, Ed.D.
President, Salem Community College
