Glass Experiences & Open House Events
SCC's Glass Education Center host a variety of glass workshops and events throughout the year. With offerings of a one-day experience to classes consisting of multiple days of intensive study, Salem Community College has workshops for both the novice glassmaker and for those with years of experience.

SATURDAY FLAMEWORKING
Saturdays, February 1 - March 1, 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM
Five Consecutive Saturday Hands-On Sessions; $300 per student
Hey teens! Are you interested in expressing your creativity with glass?
This exciting, hands-on workshop is perfect for teens and will focus on the art of flameworking, where you'll learn to manipulate glass with a torch. Over the course of five consecutive Saturdays, you'll learn to create different glass pieces and bring your own ideas to life using clear and colored borosilicate glass. Whether you're completely new to the process or already have some experience, this class will help you build your skills and explore new techniques!
Glass is an amazing and unique material; it is an absolutely magical experience to work with it. Our studio is a fun, creative, and safe place to work. Working with glass does inherently come with some risk. We like to minimize any chance of injury by adhering to a strict health and safety policy. On that note, you will want to be sure to adhere to the dress code below.
Beyond coming dressed properly to work in the studio please bring with you your excitement and enthusiasm; everything else you need we will have here for you! All materials necessary for this workshop are included!
GEC Dress Code:
-No open-toed or open-heeled shoes permitted.
-Natural fiber clothing only, avoid synthetics.
-No skirts. Shorts are allowed if they are knee length or longer.
-Long hair must be tied back and loose clothing secured.

The February SCC Glass Club sale will feature handmade glass items including jewelry, paperweights, ornaments, picture frames, vases and more! While visiting the center guests may tour the glass studios, view our glass collections, and see glassmaking in action!
Also on February 2nd, the glass center will be running several hands on workshops. No glass experience is necessary, but please note minimum age requirements for each experience. Click on the link above for details and registration.

Fused Glass Valentines Suncatcher*, 1.5 hour session from 12:30pm-2:00pm, or 2:30pm-4:00pm, $40.00 per person- Participants will create their own beautiful fused glass Valentines Day Suncatcher to display in a window or to give as a gift to a loved one by layering pieces of flat glass and enamels and heating them in a kiln. Ages 4 and up. Under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Flameworked Glass Heart Pendants (Hanging Focal Beads), 3 hour session from 1pm-4pm, $60.00 per person- Spend a full three hours in our flameworking studio using glass, heat, gravity and simple tools to create your very own glass heart pendants at the torch! Each participant will have enough time to create multiple pendants. Ages 10 and up. Under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Hot Glass Paperweight*, 1.5 hour sessions between 12:00pm-1:30pm, or 2:30pm-4pm, $70.00- Participants will create a colorful hot glass paperweight from the furnace in our glassblowing studio! Ages 14 and up. Under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Fuel your passion for glass with an intensive workshop at SCC's Glass Education Center! Incredible multiday glass workshops in flameworking, glassblowing, casting, stained glass, and more! 2025's incredible lineup and workshop details can be found at www.salemcc.edu/glass-intensives.
We are thrilled to welcome Paul Stankard and Lucio Bubacco, Shayla Windstar Behrman, Patty Clune, Dan Coyle and Danny White, Joseph Cavalieri, Katie Severance and Klaus Paris, Joy Munshower, Anna Boothe, Madeline Rile Smith, Julia Cordi, David Graeber, Mathieu Grodet, Michael Hunter, Percy Echols, Amy Lemaire, Eric Goldschmidt, Charlyn Moellers, and Cat Burns for our summer 2025 intensive workshop series!
Intensive workshops are four to five days in length. All intensive workshops include additional studio time outside of class meetings. Materials for participating are included.
Participants must be 18 years of age to register for SCC's intensive glass workshops.
