With offerings of a one-day experience to classes consisting of multiple days of intensive study, Salem Community College has workshops for both the novice glassmaker and for those with years of experience.

Available Workshops on October 25th:
Fused Fall Themed Votive Candle Holder*, 1.5 hour session from 12:30 - 2:00 pm or 2:30 - 4:00 pm, $50.00 per person - Create your very own fused glass votive candle holder! Participants will create their one-of-a-kind fall or Halloween themed votive holder by layering pieces of flat glass and enamels and heating them in a kiln. Ages 4 and up. Under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Flameworked Halloween Themed Glass Pendants (hanging focal beads), 3 hour session from 1:00 - 4:00 pm, $70.00 per person - Spend a full three hours in our flameworking studio using glass, heat, gravity and simple tools to create your very own Halloween themed glass pendants at the torch! Each participant will have enough time to create multiple beads! Ages 12 and up. Under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Blown Glass Pumpkin*, 1.5 hour sessions between 12:00 - 1:30 pm or 2:30 - 4:00 pm, $75.00 - Participants will create a glass pumpkin from the glass furnace in our glassblowing studio! Utilizing molten glass, you will select from a wide variety of colors to manipulate and shape your one-of-a-kind pumpkin with the guidance and assistance of our incredible team of glassblowers! Ages 12 and up. Under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
(*Due to the process, items will need to be picked up at a later date, or can be shipped for an additional fee.)
Cancellation Policy: Cancellations made more than one-week prior to event are subject to a $15 cancellation fee per ticket. Cancellations made within 48 hours of the workshop will be refunded half the registration fee per ticket. Cancellations made with less than 48 hours notice are non-refundable.

Fused Glass Lantern*, 1.5 hour session from 12:30 - 2:00 pm or 2:30 - 4:00 pm, $75.00 per person - Create your very own lantern featuring multiple fused glass panes! Participants will create their one-of-a-kind lantern by layering pieces of flat glass and enamels and heating them in a kiln. The glass panels will be inserted as the windows to a glass lantern that will add light and color to your home! Ages 4 and up. Under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Hey teens! Are you interested in working with glass creatively? Join us for our 3-session Teen Glassblowing Workshop!
This exciting, hands-on workshop is an awesome introduction to blown glass and will focus on the art of traditional glassmaking at the furnace, where you'll learn how to manipulate molten glass into a variety of solid and hollow forms. Clear and colored glass will be explored. Whether you're completely new to the process or already have some experience, this class will help you build your skills and explore new techniques!
No prior experience with glass is required for this fun and educational glass experience! Teens, ages 13 - 18, are welcome to participate in this workshop.

SCC's Glass Education Center is located on Salem Community College's campus in parking lot A at 460 Hollywood Ave. Carneys Point, NJ 08069.
Glass is an amazing and unique material; it is an absolutely magical experience to work with it. Our studio is a fun, creative, and safe place to work. Working with glass does inherently come with some risk. We like to minimize any chance of injury by adhering to a strict health and safety policy. On that note, you will want to be sure to adhere to the dress code below.
Beyond coming dressed properly to work in the studio please bring with you your excitement and enthusiasm; everything else you need we will have here for you! All materials necessary for this workshop are included!
GEC Dress Code:
-No open-toed or open-heeled shoes permitted.
-Natural fiber clothing only, avoid synthetics.
-No skirts. No leggings/jeggings. Shorts are allowed if they are knee length or longer.
-Long hair must be tied back and loose clothing secured.

Fused Glass Winter/Holiday Themed Ornament*, 1.5 hour session from 12:30 - 2:00 pm or 2:30 - 4:00 pm, $50.00 per person - Create your very own fused glass ornament! Be inspired by the winter season or create a ornament to become a part of your family's holiday collection! Participants will create their one-of-a-kind ornament by layering pieces of flat glass and enamels and heating them in a kiln. Your glass ornament can be hung in a window, on a tree, or wherever you would like to admire it in your home! Ages 4 and up. Under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Flameworked Glass Icicle Ornaments, 3 hour session from 1:00 - 4:00 pm, $70.00 per person - Spend a full three hours in our flameworking studio using glass, heat, gravity and simple tools to create your very own beautiful glass icicle ornaments! Each participant will have enough time to create multiple icicles! Ages 12 and up. Under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Introductory & Beginning Glassblowing

Welcome to Glassblowing!! In this 5-day intensive workshop, we will cover important foundational techniques to develop good glassblowing habits.
We will use a variety of fun games and drills to get more comfortable moving around the hotshop and the material. Each day we will build on the techniques learned in the previous lessons.
We will be crafting different forms such as paperweights, cups, bowls, and plates to study hot glass and how it moves. There will be a small amount of color provided and students are welcome to bring their own.
No experience is necessary. Intermediate levels are welcome to join us and dive into more subtleties in the glassblowing process.
This class meets from 9am to 5pm each day, Monday through Friday, with additional studio time Monday through Thursday, from 5pm to 9pm. Materials for participating in the course are included.
Patty Clune is a dedicated craftsperson focused on glass since 2013. She graduated from Salem Community College in 2018 with associates degrees in Scientific Glassblowing Technology and Glass Art. She had previously earned a degree in Visual Communications before attending Salem with a focus on studio art.
She has worked for multiple artists as an assistant, mostly notably for Paul Stankard from 2016 to present. She currently resides in Philadelphia and is Head Gaffer at John Pomp Studios, specializing in high end lighting and furniture production.
In her personal work, she is inspired to create clean forms with simple patterns, highlighting the physical and optical properties that only glass can offer as a material. Her practice is primarily focused on using a formulaic approach to the physical act of glassblowing. Patty is less focused on art than she is on technical craftsmanship, but she feels her artistic expression thrives during the process of making. Her love affair with glass is held with the unique physical properties in which glass inherently exists. When she's not honing her craft with full-time production, she enjoys flameworking, teaching, and taking classes.

Mathieu Grodet, "Build It, Pull It, Slice It"
5-Day Flameworking/Murrine Workshop
January 4 - 8, 2027
This engaging 5-day course delves into the classic practice of creating murrine with an emphasis on how to compose an image with glass following a plan. We will take look at the history the process, from the ancient Egyptians, to the 16th century studios of Venice, to new contemporary takes on creating, to then use the Franchini technique to produce our own original murrine. Student will be able to create their designs by manipulating hot glass using the flameworking process.
We will break down each step in and use multiple methods and stages to produce an image in a glass cane we will then slice to reveal multiples of the created imagery. Each day we will be able to add steps to the main design growing in size as well as complexity. By the end of the workshop, students will be able to create unique pieces using several flameworking techniques and with the use of cold working.
Some prior flameworking experience is required. Beginner to advance are welcome.

Stephen Peirce & Katie Severance
"Lathe the Good Times Roll: Intermediate to Advanced Borosilicate Flameworking"
5-Day Flameworking/Latheworking Workshop
January 4 - 8, 2027
Ready to turn up the heat and take your lathe game for a spin?! Join Katie Severance and Stephan Peirce for an intermediate-to-advanced borosilicate flameworking course that brings together the precision of scientific glassblowing, the creative freedom of artistic latheworking, and a healthy dose of let the good times roll.
We'll start by getting up close and personal with the lathe-learning lathe anatomy, operation, care, and maintenance so you can understand not just how to use these machines, but how to keep them running smoothly and working with you. Luckily, Salem Community College offers an impressive setup: eight lathes in a variety of sizes and models, giving students the opportunity to work on different machines and get a feel for how each one moves, behaves, and brings something different to the bench.
Once we've got the machinery under control, it's time to get colorful! A major focus of the course will be color preparation and application techniques, exploring different ways to prepare, layer, manipulate, and incorporate color into your work. We'll dig into the technical side of getting color to behave while leaving plenty of room for experimentation, happy accidents, and pushing materials beyond their comfort zone.
Katie and Stephan will draw from their backgrounds in both scientific glassblowing and artistic latheworking, sharing techniques, troubleshooting strategies, and approaches that bridge the gap between precision and play. Expect demonstrations, hands-on exploration, problem-solving, and plenty of opportunities to experiment with form, color, and process.
This course is for glassworkers who already have a solid foundation and are ready to refine their skills, expand their vocabulary, and get weird with the possibilities.
Bring your curiosity, your questions, and your willingness to melt some glass. Let the good times roll!
